How to curl
To curl your hair with a flat iron, the first thing to consider is the best flat iron for the job. One that is medium thickness and not very wide works best. Take a section of hair, depending on thickness of your hair and the size of the curls desired, about an inch deep and an inch and a half wide works best for bigger curls. Smaller sections will yield smaller curls. Spray the section with the heat protective spray. This is important as it protects the hair from damage caused by the flat iron. The spray also helps your hair hold the curls. Comb the section of hair to smooth as well as distribute the spray. The smoother the hair, when beginning the flat ironing, the quicker the hair will curl and the less time the flat iron will need to stay on your hair.
Place the iron around the prepared section at the roots. Close the iron and slowly pull to the ends of the hair, turning the iron at a 180-degree angle to form the curls. The slower you pull the iron, the tighter the curl will be. The faster you pull the iron, the looser the curls will be. It will take some practice to learn to form the types of curls you want.
At the end of the pull, twist the iron a little for a sausage effect and release the iron. Work over your entire head in sections to curl your hair. To set the curl, you can curl the hair back up, pin with a bobby pin and spray the curl. Leave the bobby pins in place until you are done with your whole head and then remove the pins for a head full of curls. If you are just looking to add a little volume to your hairstyle, then leave the curls loose and comb them lightly with your fingers when you are done styling your hair. Spray the hair with styling spray when you’re done styling your hair to extend the duration of your curls.
Depending on the style you want will determine the best way to use for curling hair with a flat iron. However, it is possible to achieve most curly styles using a flat iron. From adding volume to a head full of curls can be achieved with a flat iron. With a little practice, you have the style you’d like without the additional hassle of taking along a curling iron.
